GINGER JEANS WEEKEND WORKSHOP
GINGER JEANS WEEKEND WORKSHOP
Friday, January 20th – Sunday, January 22nd
Featuring guest instructor Heather Lou of Closet Case Files, this workshop is one you will not want to miss. We will be making a pair of Ginger Jeans: the daily wardrobe staple you’ll reach for time and again. The Ginger Jeans are “Engineered to be as flattering as possible, featuring subtly shaped back pockets to highlight the curve of the bum, slimming side seams and a higher back rise to prevent peekabooty. Designed for stretch denim, Ginger Jeans will hug you in all the right places.”
With two style options to choose from and the option of adding a flare leg, you can engineer your dream jeans.
This workshop is ideal for the intermediate sewist – you should be comfortable using a sewing machine, and have sewn a garment or two that you wear.
The Workshop
The cost of this Workshop is $450, which includes Friday festivities, lunch Saturday & Sunday, a paper copy of the Ginger Jeans sewing pattern, 16+ hours of sewing instruction, use of Shop equipment, and lots of exclusive surprises and treats.*
The Weekend merriments will begin Friday evening – a casual cocktail party starting around 6 pm at Stitch Sew Shop. Mingle with Heather and your fellow Workshop attendees (minimizing that dreadful first day of school feeling Saturday morning!) and pick up any last minute supplies you might need for the weekend*.
Saturday will bring a full day of making, beginning at 10 am. Lunch will be included, as well as some mid-afternoon pick-me-ups, and we will sew until 6 pm. Dinner reservations for the group will be made at a local favorite restaurant (Dutch treat), a pleasant walking distance from the Shop.
Sunday, return to the shop at 10 am, and pick up where you left off. Lunch will be provided, and you may depart as your schedule permits. The Shop is open until 6 pm on Sunday; you are welcome to stay and sew as long as you like.
The Sewlebrity
With the release of the Bombshell swimsuit sewing pattern in 2013, Heather started her journey towards becoming a full-time pattern designer. She left her job as a commercial interior designer in 2014, and now spends her time dreaming up chic, modern sewing patterns. She also frequently writes about sewing and style on her blog, Closet Case Files, and travels around north America teaching women that anyone can make a great fitting pair of jeans…lucky for us!
Look for inspiration for your Ginger Jeans, listen to Heather on Seamwork Radio or the While She Naps podcast, read one of my favorite blog posts on Closet Case Files, or this great post about the pattern that changed Heather’s life, and this enlightening article Heather wrote about denim. I think you’ll start to see why I am so delighted that Heather is coming to Stitch Sew Shop; her positivity and encouraging spirit are infectious. We had so much fun last July with Heather, and I am confident this weekend will be no different.
The Weekend
Weekend Workshops at Stitch Sew Shop are designed to be a delightful escape. Located in picturesque Old Town Alexandria, Stitch Sew Shop is a sanctuary for the modern maker, and this weekend will be extraordinary.
Stitch Sew Shop is located just minutes away from Reagan National Airport (DCA). It’s a short taxi or metro ride to Old Town from the airport, and it’s unlikely you will need to rent a car if you plan on staying in Old Town. The AmTrak station is collocated with the Metro at the King Street Station.
There are many great lodging options very near to the Shop. There is a darling B & B a few blocks away (216 A City B & B), and within a comfortable walking distance are many other hotels, including: Hotel Lorien, Hilton, Embassy Suites, or Hilton Garden Inn.
If you are local to the area, Stitch Sew Shop is an easy 10-12 minute walk from the King Street Metro Station. If you’re planning to drive in, there is metered on-street parking, as well as a paid parking lot a few blocks away.
