{"id":5022,"date":"2020-07-27T09:43:37","date_gmt":"2020-07-27T13:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stitchsewshop.com\/?p=5022"},"modified":"2020-07-27T09:43:37","modified_gmt":"2020-07-27T13:43:37","slug":"covered-button-kit-tutorial-july-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/covered-button-kit-tutorial-july-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Covered Button Kit Tutorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you seen the different kinds of covered button craft kits we have at the shop? \u00a0While not for sewing onto clothing, these covered buttons are a great way to carry a bit of your favorite fabrics around with you. \u00a0We have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Covered-Button-Bookmark-Hardware-Kit-multiple-colors-available-x38519774.htm\">bookmark kits<\/a> in three\u00a0metal finishes &#8211;\u00a0antique brass, gunmetal, and silver, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Liberty-DIY-Covered-Button-Barrette-Kit-x50870807.htm\">barrette kits<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Covered-Button-Push-Pin-Hardware-Kit-x50869688.htm\">push pin\u00a0kits<\/a>. \u00a0The kits do not come with instructions, so we&#8217;ve provided a tutorial here for you using the bookmark hardware kit.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Covered Button Bookmark\u00a0Tutorial<\/h4>\n<h5>Supplies:<\/h5>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5026 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1056.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Covered-Button-Bookmark-Hardware-Kit-multiple-colors-available-x38519774.htm\">Bookmark hardware kit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Covered-Button-Assembly-Tool---Size-60-x38519784.htm\">Button cover tool<\/a> (the clear and pink round plastic pieces)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/E6000-Adhesive-05-oz-x38519881.htm\">E6000<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Small scrap of fabric (quilting or other light to medium weight cottons work well)<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Step 1:<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5027 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1057.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>From your scrap of fabric, cut a square approx. 3&#8243; x 3&#8243;. \u00a0If you like a particular motif in your fabric, then it&#8217;s important to center that when cutting your square.<\/p>\n<p>If your fabric is sheer or very lightweight, you may need to line it with something. \u00a0I did not line this quilting cotton, but when using Liberty Tana Lawn, I will often use a solid lawn or voile to back it. \u00a0On the other hand, if your fabric is too thick, the button might not &#8220;snap&#8221; together.<\/p>\n<h5>Step 2:<\/h5>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5028 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1058.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5029 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1060.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5030 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1061.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Assemble the covered button. \u00a0Place your square of fabric, face down, into the hollow of the larger part of the covered button tool. \u00a0Try to make sure it is as centered as possible. \u00a0Then place the outer part of the covered button (curved side down) on top of the fabric, pushing it into the tool.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5031 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1064.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Flip the tool over so that you can get a preview of your finished button. \u00a0If the design is off-center or not the way you want it, then pop it out and try again. \u00a0(You won&#8217;t be able to re-do it once the button is assembled!)<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5032 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1066.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5033 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1068.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Use your fingers to press the free edges of the fabric down into the tool. \u00a0Then take the back of the covered button (the flat metal piece) and push it into the center of the tool. \u00a0(NOTE: to make this button extra secure, you may want to place a little bit of E6000 in between the two halves of the button.).<\/p>\n<p>You have now made a little \u00a0covered button sandwich, trapping the free edges inside the two halves of the covered button. \u00a0Use the pink part of the covered button tool to really squeeze and secure the button. \u00a0You will feel the back &#8220;pop&#8221; into place.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5034 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1069.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>When everything is assembled, simply pop the button out of the tool.<\/p>\n<h5>Step 3:<\/h5>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5035 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1071.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Place a small dab of E6000 on the flat disc of the bookmark (or push pin or barrette, whichever hardware you are using).<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5036 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1073.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Carefully center this disc onto the back of the covered button, pressing the pieces together to ensure good contact. \u00a0If you&#8217;re picky about placement, make sure you flip it over and check that your print doesn&#8217;t end up upside down!<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5037 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ACS_1074.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Let dry &#8211;
