Mills European Laundered Linen in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/WOVEN-FABRIC\/Linen\/p\/Alta-Mare---European-Laundered-Linen---Merchant-Mills-x49759815.htm\">Alta-Mare<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/WOVEN-FABRIC\/Linen\/p\/Sweeps-Scrim---European-Laundered-Linen---Merchant-Mills-x49626621.htm\">Sweeps-Scrim<\/a> with matching <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/KNIT-FABRIC\/p\/Alta-Mare---Cotton-Rib---Merchant-Mills-x50192872.htm\">cotton rib<\/a>.\u00a0 We stock several colors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/WOVEN-FABRIC.htm?search_keyword=laundered\">Laundered Linen<\/a>, as well as many other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/WOVEN-FABRIC\/Linen.htm\">linens and linen blends<\/a>, which would be perfect for this pattern. \u00a0We also have a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC\/KNIT-FABRIC.htm?search_keyword=rib\">rib knits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you make a muslin?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did make a muslin.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I had actually made the dress before, using the original size range.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Being just outside the size range, I had to grade up and make some tweaks to get the right fit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>When the new range was released, I thought I would give it a try.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Anything involving bust darts, I tend to muslin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you make any alterations to the pattern?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I ended up lowering the bust dart, which has become fairly common.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Oh gravity!<\/p>\n<p>Cashmerette has a great <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.cashmerette.com\/2016\/08\/how-to-change-the-height-of-a-bust-dart.html\">tutorial<\/a> on how to change the dart position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you learn any new techniques\/skills?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, but that is why I love this pattern so much.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a simple sew.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have any tips for construction?<\/strong><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5008\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_6217-e1594913848375.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/>\n<p>To stabilize the shoulder dart,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I used SewKeysE<a href=\"https:\/\/shop.emmaseabrooke.com\/category.sc?categoryId=3\">,<\/a> knit stable tape.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 (Similar to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Stretchy-Fusible-Seam-Tape---Knit-n-Stable---Pellon-x38520033.htm\">Stretchy Fusible Seam Tape<\/a> &#8211; just trim it down to the width you need!).\u00a0<\/span>And when pressing the dart, I used the side of the tailor&#8217;s ham.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5010\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_6245-1-e1594913955150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"419\" \/>\n<p>When sewing the bust dart, instead of back-tacking at the tip of the dart, I pivot the fabric and sew along the fold.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Blueprints for Sewing has a great <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blueprintsforsewing.com\/blog\/sewing-darts\">blog post<\/a> on darts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What did you like about the pattern\/fabric?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love the laundered linen, I can machine wash and dry it and it sews beautifully.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Even in the 90 degree weather wearing black, I was comfortable. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was able to use ribbing, left from previous projects and it is a great pattern for color blocking, so it\u2019s great for scrap busting.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5013\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_3201-resized1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5014\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/IMG_3202-e1594914441200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p><strong>What did you dislike about the pattern\/fabric?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not a big fan of the open darts but that is a simple fix and really not that bad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Would you make it again?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have plans to make the short sleeve, crew neck version in some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/c\/p\/Marine---Viscose-Linen-Silky-Noil---Telio-Cie-x49858009.htm\">silky noil<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>There are several ways you could make this pattern all your own! \u00a0Try a contrasting ribbing (or one of these fun\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopstitchsewshop.com\/shop\/FABRIC.htm?search_keyword=striped\">striped pre-cuts<\/a>!) or mix up your prints and solids. \u00a0Kalle has made a few versions that she loves:<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5011 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/twofielders.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" \/>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stitchsewshop.com\/category\/stitch-samples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stitch Samples<\/a>\u00a0is a blog series that gives you a closer look at the samples made by members of our shop gang.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Melanie is sharing a couple of her recent makes\u00a0using our laundered linen and matching rib knits from Merchant &amp;
