I can say with reasonable certainly, had I stumbled across this top several years ago, I would have clicked over to\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anthropologie.com\/shop\/gingham-button-back-top?category=SEARCHRESULTS&amp;color=041\">Anthropologie<\/a> site, added my\u00a0size to the cart, checked out, and gone on about my\u00a0life, likely forgetting all about the purchase until it arrived on my doorstep.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not what happened this time. This time, my sewing-mind started scanning through the\u00a0catalog of sewing patterns that lives inside my head and immediately called up this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainlinestudio.com\/2013\/11\/20\/pattern-tutorial-long-sleeved-scout-variation\/\">tutorial<\/a> for a long-sleeved\u00a0Scout Tee, the back yoke and lower sleeve details\u00a0of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colettepatterns.com\/catalog\/aster\">Aster<\/a> blouse, and the button back of the <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.made-by-rae.com\/products\/beatrix-top\">Beatrix<\/a>. An obsession was born.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as humanly possible, I got out my\u00a0TNT <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.grainlinestudio.com\/products\/scout-tee\">Scout Tee<\/a> pattern and got to work. Here&#8217;s what I did:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>-added a back yoke (that bias plaid, baby!)<\/li>\n<li>-split the lower back and added button plackets<\/li>\n<li>-lengthened the back and added curve to the hem<\/li>\n<li>-lengthened sleeves and added cuffs (more bias!)<\/li>\n<li>-raised and widened the neckline and drafted a facing<\/li>\n<li>-added a chest pocket<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1093 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_2736.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2736\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1096 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/pocket.jpg\" alt=\"pocket\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After sewing up a quick muslin to check the changes I had made to the construction (I knew the fit would be spot on since I started with my trusty Scout pattern), I got to cutting.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1092 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchsewshop.com\/development\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/top.jpg\" alt=\"top\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>\n<p>Two days later, I had my top. I also had: opportunity to recognize my creativity and ability; empowerment in engineering &amp; constructing; delight\u00a0in the details; passion\u00a0for the process; and satisfaction with myself.
