Kelli Ward of True Bias is coming next month for our Weekend Workshop! Kelli creates patterns that are urban, modern, and easy to wear. I’ve made and love several of her patterns – they are among the most worn garments in my handmade wardrobe. I’ve made the Sutton Blouse (in fact, we offered it as a class a while back), Hudson Pants (two pairs), and Southport Dress, and they are all fantastic. I have just picked up my copy shop prints of her latest designs, the Emerson Pants and Ogden Cami, and am really looking forward to sewing them up soon.

In the Weekend Workshop, we will be making the Southport Dress – one of my favorites! Available as either a maxi or knee length dress, the Southport is a great way to showcase a bold print or a favorite fabric. I recently completed my second Southport, and I love it every bit as much as the first one I made a few years back.

Our Weekend Workshops are wonderful events – starting with a cocktail hour Friday evening, sewing all day Saturday & Sunday in our lovely light-filled workspace, and enjoying the company of our visiting “sewlebrity” and fellow workshop participants. We take time out of each day to have a nice stroll to lunch at some of my favorite Old Town eateries, with several treats and surprises sprinkled through out the weekend.

*this workshop is ideal for the confident beginner – someone who is comfortable using a sewing machine, and who has used a commercial garment sewing pattern at least once*

The Workshop

The cost of this Workshop is $450, which includes Friday festivities, lunch Saturday & Sunday, an electronic PDF copy of the Southport Dress sewing pattern, as well as a copy shop printed version of the pattern; 16+ hours of sewing instruction, use of Shop equipment, and lots of exclusive surprises and treats.

The Sewlebrity 

Kelli is the owner and designer behind the indie pattern company, True Bias. She first learned to sew as a child, but never thought of it as a serious career. It wasn’t until after she started a sewing blog and found herself as a new mom that she decided to look deeper. She began taking classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology in patternmaking and started her business soon after. She is passionate about finding time in each day to create something and loves sharing that possibility with others through her patterns.

She recently made the move from NYC to Denver where she lives with her husband and two children. She’s excited to be in a place with a slower pace, cleaner air, and more time in the day to sew.

The Weekend

Weekend Workshops at Stitch Sew Shop are designed to be a delightful escape. Located in picturesque Old Town Alexandria, Stitch Sew Shop is a sanctuary for the modern maker, and this weekend will be extraordinary.

Stitch Sew Shop is located just minutes away from Reagan National Airport (DCA). It’s a short taxi or metro ride to Old Town from the airport, and it’s unlikely you will need to rent a car if you plan on staying in Old Town. AmTrak station is collocated with the Metro at the King Street Station.

There are many great lodging options very near to the Shop. There is a darling B & B a few blocks away (216 A City B & B), and within a comfortable walking distance are many other hotels, including: Hotel Lorien, Hilton, Embassy Suites, or Hilton Garden Inn. If you are interested in sharing a room, please let me know and I will put you in touch with other interested attendees.

If you are local to the area, Stitch Sew Shop is an easy 10-12 minute walk from the King Street Metro Station. If you’re planning to drive in, there is metered on-street parking, as well as a paid parking lot a few blocks away.

*Including fabric! If you find the perfect fabric for your Southport Dress at Stitch Sew Shop on Friday evening, I will wash it and return it to you bright and early Saturday morning, just in time for the workshop.
