Amy Chapman, of Cloth Habit, will lead us through making her Harriet Bra pattern. Amy will help us learn to cut, sew, fit, and alter a custom underwire bra. The Harriet Bra pattern is available in a wide range of sizes, from 28A to 42H (UK cup sizes); Amy will teach you professional sewing techniques and the basics of bra fitting throughout the weekend.

The Weekend Workshop registration covers a special materials kit provided by Amy, which contains enough fabric and findings to make two bras. We are also including a Stitch Sew Shop Lingerie Tool Kit, which includes all of the specialty tools* you’ll find useful for bra making.

The Workshop

The cost of this Workshop is $575, which includes Friday evening festivities; Bra Making Kit & Harriet Bra Pattern from Cloth Habit; Stitch Sew Shop Lingerie Tool Kit; lunch on Saturday & Sunday; approximately 16 hours of sewing instruction; use of Shop equipment; and lots of exclusive surprises and treats!

The Workshop merriments will begin Friday from 6 -7 pm, with a casual cocktail party style Meet & Greet. Mingle with Amy and our fellow Workshop attendees (minimizing that dreadful first day of school feeling Saturday morning!) and peruse the sample bras Amy will bring.

Saturday will bring a full day of making, beginning at 10 am. Lunch will be included, as well as some mid-afternoon pick-me-ups, and we will sew until 6 pm. Dinner reservations for the group will be made for 7 pm at a local favorite restaurant (Dutch treat).

Sunday, return to the shop at 10 am, and pick up where you left off. Lunch will be provided, and you may depart as your schedule permits. The Shop is open until 6 pm; you are welcome to stay and sew as long as you like.

The Sewlebrity

Amy is a lingerie sewing pattern designer and teacher at Cloth Habit. One of her passions is to inspire women to create bras that truly fit and celebrate the body. She has been sewing since she was a young girl and turned her love of pattern making and design into a small business in 2014. Amy’s patterns are highly instructional, offering up-to-date techniques based on current ready to wear construction for a professional finish, and including tips on working with stretch fabrics and lingerie knits. In her classes, she loves to help sewists think through the “whys” of fitting and construction, so they can leave feeling inspired to experiment and try new ideas on their own.

The Weekend

Weekend Workshops at Stitch Sew Shop are designed to be a delightful escape. Located in picturesque Old Town Alexandria, Stitch Sew Shop is a sanctuary for the modern maker, and this workshop will be extraordinary.

Stitch Sew Shop is located just minutes away from Reagan National Airport (DCA). It’s a short taxi or metro ride to Old Town from the airport, and it’s unlikely you will need to rent a car if you plan on staying in Old Town. AmTrak station is collocated with the Metro at the King Street Station.

There are many great lodging options very near to the Shop. Within a comfortable walking distance are many hotels, including: Hotel Lorien, Hilton, Embassy Suites, or Hilton Garden Inn.

If you are local to the area, Stitch Sew Shop is an easy 10-12 minute walk from the King Street Metro Station. If you’re planning to drive in, there is metered on-street parking, as well as a paid parking lot a few blocks away.
