Stitch Kits :: Reversible Tissue Box Cover

reversible tissue box cover

Shop Girl Jeanne designed these for use in the shop, and then drafted the pattern to share! The reversible tissue box cover is a great small project, and either the finished product or a kit to make one both make great gifts. Check out some of the details below, and then visit the shop to pick up a kit, or just the pattern if you already have fabric you’d love to use!

The kits include patterns for both directional print fabric or solid fabric/fabric without nap. Fabric shown here is the Egyptian Pottery print (100% cotton) from Lady McElroy, paired with Peppered Cotton in fuchsia.

Check out some tips and tricks from Jeanne if you want to make your own:

be careful sewing the oval
  • Because this is such a small project, you’ll need to be very precise cutting the fabric, since the seam allowance is so small.
  • Take care sewing the small oval; it might be worth it to practice on a scrap first, and use the handwheel instead of the foot pedal on the tightest arcs of the oval.
  • When sewing the sides together to create the upper corners, be sure and  stitch all the way to the end, allowing the needle to sew one stitch off the fabric edge, and then backstitch.  This creates a crisp corner.
  • When choosing the length for the elastic, it is intended to keep the cover from lifting  when grabbing a tissue, it does not need to be tight.
  • You can adjust the pattern to fit rectangular tissue boxes by simply adding a few inches to the width, and reducing the height by a few inches. The construction steps will be the same!
the elastic at the bottom does not need to fit tightly

Both the Reversible Tissue Box kits (including the pattern, instructions, two fabrics, plus the elastic) are available at the shop, as well as the pattern and instructions by itself, if you already have fabric you’d like.
